THE EBASS TRIAL – Rust De Winter Dam 2017
The June EBASS event was originally scheduled to take place at Renosterkop Dam, but extremely low water levels putting boat safety at risk, made a change of venue to Rust De Winter a sensible decision.
A couple of years ago the EBASS committee decided (as a result of over-fishing) to rest Rust De Winter dam a year or two – so competitors were quite eager to get back to this old but popular venue.
The total prize money on offer for the event was once again a fantastic R 15 500, resulting in serious and extremely close competition on the water!
Fishing on Rust De Winter proved to be a pleasant surprise, and judged by the amount of baitfish seen and bass landed, the fishery is definitely showing some positive signs of recovery.
The salad bowl proved to be the place to fish, with oxygen weed the more productive vegetation. Bait presentation in general had to be slow – nearly dead sticking to be effective, with traditional productive Rust De Winter topwater patterns not really making an impact. Also surprisingly, the morning sessions proved to be more productive compared to the afternoon fishing, during which period the bites slowed down significantly.
All in all an enjoyable day of fishing and it was great to be back at the old “Rusties” again
Congratulations to the following top 5 competitors – for producing some really solid bags:

The Ebass committee would once again like to extend a big thank you the following sponsors – without their fantastic support this great tournament trail would not be possible: F1 Grand Prix Tours, Viper Doors, Bark Unlimited, The Gearbox Company, Escape Boating, Hooked on Bass, Climbing Kilimanjaro and Netspace Internet Solutions.
Please support these sponsors to show that we do indeed appreciate their efforts.
