THE EBASS TRIAL – Loskop Dam 2017
EBASS LOSKOP DAM – 02 SEP 2017
Loskop dam during spawn, must rate as one of the best bass fishing venues in South Africa.
Everything is very close to being prefect, great resort facilities, impressive dam located in a beautiful nature reserve and big spawning bass – just about every ingredient you need for hosting an unforgettable bass fishing event!
Unfortunately the weather for the 2 weeks leading up to the event, was not ideal and during the Friday night of the event a front moved in, resulting in a howling wind blowing all night. Luckily the wind subsided around 10h00 on Saturday morning, salvaging the day for most competitors.
PRIZE MONEY
The total prize money on offer for the event was once again R 15 500, with a number of day visitors, also attracted by these rewards, as well as a real promise of hooking one of the notoriously big spawning Loskop females.
THE FISHING
Low light and strong winds made nest fishing very difficult, if not impossible, for the first 3 hours of the event. As the sun rose higher above the horizon and the wind died down, nest fishing became the dominant pattern. A number of competitors did however stick to their guns and continued to fish deeper staging structures and trees.
In the end it turned out that the nest fishing pattern produced the bigger, as well as the winning bags.
Boats were mostly scattered all over the dam, but Crock Bay as well as the long point at the entrance of the bay, seemed to be the preferred area for a number of anglers.
Fishing was by no means easy and even some of the top bags, were presented with one or 2 smaller (600 – 800 grams) fish in the mix. At the end of the day, during weigh-in, huge smiles and high fives was the order of the day, with a happy and satisfied bunch of anglers.
Definitely the most enjoyable EBASS event to date for 2017!

SPONSORS
The Ebass committee would once again like to extend a big thank you the following sponsors – without their fantastic support this great tournament trail would not be possible: F1 Grand Prix Tours, Viper Doors, Bark Unlimited, The Gearbox Company, Escape Boating, Hooked on Bass, Climbing Kilimanjaro and Netspace Internet Solutions.
Please support these sponsors to show that we do indeed appreciate their efforts.
NEXT EVENT STILL UNDECIDED!!
A number of the EBASS competitor’s boats have been commissioned by SABAA for the World Black Bass Championships, to be hosted on the Vaal River during the first week in October 2017. The committee has therefor decided to postpone the date of our next event by one week – to the 14 October 2017.
Because of sewerage spills in Bronkhorstspruit dam, the committee has also decided to move our last qualifying event to an alternative venue. Competitors will vote this week on a preferred venue and an announcement in this regard will be made later this week.
Please watch this space for more info.
